Choctaw for “Red Fox”

Chula Homa Hounds

An MFHA-recognized, non-profit foxhunting club riding the hill country of Mississippi since 1980 — for the love of hounds, horses, good country, and the company of friends.

Welcome to the Hunt

The Sport of a Lifetime, in Country Made for It

There is nothing quite like a frosty morning at the meet — hounds eager at the huntsman’s feet, horses blowing steam, and the whole field waiting for the first note of the horn.

Chula Homa Hounds is a community before it is anything else: of riders and landowners, of hounds and horses, and of families who gather before first light to follow a well-bred pack across creek bottoms and ridge-top pasture. Whether you have hunted for forty years or have never sat a horse, there is a place for you here.

Our Story

What We’re About

A Living Tradition

Four decades of sport, stewardship, and Southern hospitality — carried by a pack, a country, and the people who love them.

The Chase

A chase-only sport — our purpose is the thrill of watching a clever pack puzzle out a line across open country. The fox almost always goes to ground or simply outruns the hounds, and we are glad of it.

The Hounds

A registered pack of American and Crossbred foxhounds, bred over decades for biddability, a keen nose, and a deep voice that carries across the bottoms. Each hound is named, known, and loved year-round.

The Fellowship

From the stirrup cup to the hunt breakfast, the field is a family. Members span three generations, and visitors are welcomed like old friends. Come for the sport; stay for the people.

Our Signature Day

The Blessing of the Hounds

Each season opens with one of foxhunting’s oldest and most moving traditions. With bagpipes on the air and the field turned out in their best, our hounds, horses, and riders gather to be blessed before the first cast — a prayer for a safe season and good sport.

It is the day the whole community comes out: longtime members and first-time spectators, children on ponies and grandparents in tweed. All are welcome to come watch.
